Sundays

I've been chopping and grating all afternoon. We're having homemade tomato soup for dinner and the kitchen smells amazing. It's sunny and warm out, but not hot and I'm so grateful for the first hints of fall weather and the lower softer light that's spilling in our back windows.

Yellow Flowers

Caroline didn't want to nap today so Brian rocked her in her chair and they took naps together.

I bought some new fall clothes for the kids last week. Andrew wore his dark jeans and a pink checked button down to church this morning and he looked like a million bucks. He helped me put the outfit together, down to the sloppy front tuck. I think he's got a little bit of style in him when he tries.

Caroline wore her new pink Nikes to church even though I wanted her to wear her little silver mary janes because these days shoe choice is just not something I have the energy to argue over. She is so very TWO - self assured and full of firm opinions. At least they're super cute for sneakers.

Our living room is full of the sounds of football. Andrew knows that a Sunday in the fall will be known as "football Sunday" in our house. The Cowboys lost. But I'm going to win both of my fantasy games this week. I'd honestly rather lose my fantasy games and have the Cowboys win, and that's saying something.

Andrew's spent his afternoon in the playroom building little cars out of his Legos. His ability to focus and build for 2+ hours at a time is still surprising to me. He's such a little boy. We call him Architect Andrew because he designs these tall castles and garages for his cars to sleep in.

Lego Cars

I did some decorating while it rained yesterday. I worked on the bedding in the guest room and we hung a new mirror in the entryway. (But there's still so much empty wall space here! And boxes too. Oh yes.)

Wisteria Mirror

My fall book banner from last year is hanging on the mantle in the living room. I like it more here than I did in our old house. The old straw scarecrow is standing by the front chest, ready to greet you when you knock on the front door.

Fall Pumpkin Banner

Now I just need a few little pumpkins to scatter about, and we're ready.

Project 365 on Instagram

I started a 365 project on Instagram this year. (Come follow me! I'm @MeaganMusing). I'm having so much fun with it.

I've found it really easy to take at least one photo a day, edit it in an app and then tag it with my hashtag. And that's it. Surely I can keep this up all year.

I recently ordered a poster from Printsagram of some of my favorite Instagrams from last year, and it arrived on Friday.

It totally made my day.

I can't even tell you how excited I am to get this framed and hung in our house.

I've also been using my Photojojo lenses more often since I'm thinking about my iPhone photos more. Well, I'm using the macro lens a lot.

It's amazing what you can capture on your cell phone camera.

If I could just be a little bit steadier these could be even more awesome. I'm working on it.

What have you been shooting lately?

All photos taken with the iPhone 4S, Camera+ app and edited with Afterglow.

Fresh Flower Happiness

Fresh flowers in our house make me happy.

I gave up my daily coffee trips earlier this year so now I buy pretty flowers at the grocery store. I think it was a nice trade!

{And I used my 100mm macro lens for some of these so I'm working on pulling myself out of that photography slump.}

Brian and Andrew went to Central Market last weekend, and I asked them to pick up some flowers for our kitchen table and this is what they brought me.

According to instagram friends they're some kind of English rose.

I'd never seen them before, but they're absolutely beautiful.

Our breakfast room used to be this drab, muddy colored room. We had it painted earlier this summer to match the rest of our downstairs, and it made such a huge difference.

It's bright and cheery now.

And sometimes it holds fluffy roses.

I'm a happy camper.

Lemonade Birthday Party

Y'all, I loved Caroline's lemonade party so much that I think I'll do it again for her second birthday.

Okay, not really, but maybe for her third. :)

We kept it small with just family, but I still wanted to make it pretty. A girl only turns one once, right?

I made all the printables myself. I had two banners - one in the dining room by the food and her birthday sign over the fireplace in the den. I also did little tags to tie around the mason jars and use for cupcake toppers. And the cake bunting matched it all too.

The drink dispensers are from Pottery Barn, and I bought the straws online from Cute Tape.

I bought the lemonade lids from We Love Citrus, and I was super impressed. They came packaged in cute little bags and shipped quickly. They were adorable. I could have bought half the stuff on their site!

I bought all the flowers at Central Market the day before and arranged them myself. They always have a great selection, and I found just what I wanted.

I bought the over-sized mason jar at the Container Store a few months ago, and it worked out perfectly for my big flower arrangement.

I picked up the paper poofs at the last minute from Target, and I think they added some whimsy to it all.

And I had my favorite Caroline Instagrams printed through Postalpix and hung them on the stairs with twine and clothes pins.

It ended up being a little more work than I had planned, but it was totally worth it. Caroline had great fun with a house full of family, but her favorite part was the cupcake smash. And who can blame her? Cream cheese icing and balloons overhead can't be beat.

Gosh I love her.

Happy birthday sweet baby girl!

Ten on Ten - August Edition

So I'm crawling out from my birthday party cave...whew it was a busy weekend!

My mother-in-law was in town for her birthday on Friday night and then Caroline's little lemonade party was yesterday afternoon.

I have about 3 million pretty photos of the celebration to show you, but for now I want to share my Ten on Ten photos. Yep, Friday was Ten on Ten, and I'm a little late, but I liked the set so...here you go!

Friday was a day of total party prep as you'll see:

Finishing up one last banner.

Still in our pajamas.

Mid-morning light in my bedroom.

I registered for Blissodom '13! It's in Dallas next year, and I'm so excited about it! This will be my first blog conference.

After-nap grumpy lunch with this cutie.

Fenway's guarding the backyard for us.

Yellow flowers in my kitchen. I'm so obsessed with yellow right now. I love its bright pop.

And....I'm baking again.

Lemon cloud cookies.

Checking my party list and trying to figure out how to hang my Caroline Instagrams.

About nine of these were taken in my kitchen - ha! I was there a lot the last few days. I think maybe I'm all done baking for a while.

I can't wait to show y'all Caroline's party pictures...everything was so sweet! I'll be back soon.

Well, just a soon as I've polished off the left-over champagne punch. :)

Project 52 Weeks 20-23

I'm still plugging away at my Project 52. I haven't missed a week yet, and we're coming up on the half-way mark.

I can't believe how fast this year is flying by!

Week 20: Mothers

Three mamas here. I was so happy I got to spend Mother's Day with my mom. :)

Week 21: Favorites

I'm pretty sure I've posted hydrangeas approximately 342 times on my blog. They are my very favorite flower. And these are from my parents' yard. :swoon:

Week 22: Playtime

Andrew takes baseball SO SERIOUSLY. Also, pre-haircut. Post-sunscreen.

Week 23: Water

What little boy doesn't love the water hose?

Neighborhood Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are my absolute favorite flower.

I love that they're made up of little teeny tiny individual blooms.

I love that their colors are so varied.

WEB_IMG_4922

And I love that they last for a long, long time when cut and well cared for.

WEB_IMG_4939

I've been driving by these hydrangeas in my neighborhood for days and this morning I just had to stop.

WEB_IMG_4924

WEB_IMG_4930

I have no idea who lives in the house with the beautiful hydrangeas. There was a truck in the driveway when I stopped. I wondered if someone would come out to ask what in the world are you doing??.

But no one came outside. Whew.

WEB_IMG_4927

Surely they would have thought it was perfectly normal for me to be snapping photos of their beautiful blooms. Right?
