Our Week in Instagrams

Last week was really long. Brian was in the middle of finals and didn't sleep much and we didn't get to see him much. It was hard.

But this week was awesome. He had more free time, and for that we were thankful.

{This photo makes me super happy.}

I had some quality time with the kids too.

WEB_June29_2

Going to the grocery store on my own is a special treat, but I almost never count down the aisles or take cute pictures when I'm there by myself. :)

Caroline decided she was a big kid.

June_29_3

Seriously, I'm going to have to tie her down. How can this be happening to my baby?? I don't know if I can handle it. :( Also, she can climb all the way to the very top of our stairs. Whoa.

And I wore lots of plaid shirts.

WEB_June29_1

Also, I can't get the Fresh Beats out of my head. Last night I was crawling back into bed after feeding the baby, and I realized I was humming about putting my hands in the air...do it...do it...do it. In the middle of the night.

I think the heat is getting to me.

Happy weekend friends! :)

A Little Video

Oh y'all. I vlogged. :)

Ashley over at 5ohWifey is doing a monthly series called The Girl Behind the Blog and I thought I'd give it a shot.

Please laugh with me and not at me as you watch this. :)

Andrew got very shy when I turned the camera on. He's kind of silly like that.

I'm excited to hear other others talk. It's so fun to put a voice to a blogger.

Have you ever vlogged? Leave me a link in the comments. I'd love to check it out. Or link up with Ashley - it was great to have questions to answer!

My Summer Makeup

If I were a better morning person I'd be up and dressed before my kids are ready to start the day.

But I'm so not.

Most days Caroline's chirps or Andrew's footsteps are my alarm clock.

I try to get dressed in a hurry, but I feel bad having them wait for me, hanging out in the bathroom while I put on my makeup.

So a few weeks ago I decided to pack it all up and make it portable.

Now I can do my makeup in the kitchen during breakfast or in Andrew's bedroom while he plays with trains.

Getting dressed and putting on makeup everyday makes me feel better about myself. Even if I'm just hanging out at home with the kids all day. At least I'm putting some effort in, and I think surely Brian appreciates it when he gets home.

So...what am I wearing this summer?

WEB_IMG_6289_EditWords

I have an interesting assortment of makeup. It's all kind of mish-mash, but it works for me.

WEB_IMG_6306

I start with a tinted moisturizer mixed with a tiny bit of foundation. Bonus - SPF included!

WEB_IMG_6304

Then I use an under eye concealer called Well Rested from bare minerals. I may not be rested, but my eyes are. Ha! I also use a bit of a finishing powder all over.

WEB_IMG_6301

I've had the hardest time finding an eyeliner that will withstand the heat and humidity here, but so far this Stila is holding up. I also bought a new Dior color set last weekend with a creamy liner. I'm hoping that if I set it with a shadow it'll stay on well.

Time will tell I guess.

And there's no way I'll ever use the shadow part of that set, at least not during the day. I just don't ever take the time to put on eye shadow, and I'm not very good at it anyway, so I just skip it.

WEB_IMG_6292

Right now I'm wearing the Benefit They're Real mascara. I like that it's easy to put on, doesn't clump and doesn't flake off at the end of the day.

But I also really love the Cover Girl in the orange tube. (Not pictured.) It's the best for making my lashes look thick and full without them being clumpy or sticky.

And I have to curl my eyelashes. I think it makes a huge difference.

WEB_IMG_6309

I've been wearing a bronzer for my blush recently. It's got a bit of a shimmer to it and I kind of put it all over. I'm hoping it gives me a sun-kissed look and not a whoa she spent too much time in the tanning bed look. :)

And then my lipstick...

WEB_IMG_6299

I wear all kinds of stuff - I have a Maybelline that I really like {sugared honey} and Smashbox {dazzling} and a bare minerals lipgloss {sugar}. Often I'll have all of these on at the same time.

And then this weekend I bought a new peachy lipstick from Chanel. I was feeling wild and crazy and totally splurged! It's a new color for me. I usually stick to browns and pinks and this is definitely a peach, but I'm enjoying it for a new summer color.

See, I really, really like lipstick. I have it on all the time. I wear lipstick like lots of people wear chapstick. Like I wake up and put lipstick on first thing in the morning. Silly? Maybe, but my lips are happy.

So looking at it all like that it seems like a lot of work...but it really takes me about five minutes total. Unless I get sidetracked by Andrew needing more peanut butter or the baby trying to climb the stairs, which, let's be honest, is what happens most days. :)

Do you put on makeup every day? Do you have any favorites that I should add to my routine?

Weather Love

I was crazy about the weather as a kid growing up in Oklahoma.

I loved a good thunderstorm and was fascinated with cold fronts and dry lines, giant tornadoes and watching a hurricane get closer and closer to the coast.

When I was about ten I thought for sure I would be a meteorologist on TV when I grew up.

But then I realized it was all about science and math, while English and history were really much more my thing. And accounting. I was probably the only high school student to take accounting and LOVE it.

Clearly, no weather girl jobs in my future.

Moving to Dallas brought a whole new fascination with weather, mainly in that I now can spend hours checking my weather app, waiting for it to show me something other than hot and humid.

I may have mentioned the oppressive heat a time or fifty-two last summer when I was nine months pregnant.

We had record-breaking heat with something like 50 consecutive days of over 100 degree temps. It was so terrible. I just tried really, really hard to never leave the house and its glorious A/C.

But this summer has been a great reprieve. Today - June 24th! - was the first day we hit 100 degrees. We've had rocking thunderstorms and cloudy days.

Sadly, it's most likely coming to an end. It'll be in the 100's the next few days, and I doubt we'll have many 92 degree days again for a long, long time.

So - enjoy these cute iphone photos of my adorable kids from this, the last week of comfortable summer weather in Dallas.

Here's hoping for non-oppressive temps in your future! :)

Fleeting

I took Andrew to his short summer Mother's Day Out/Preschool program this week. We'd been home together, just him and me and Caroline, for four weeks.

I thought I'd be knocking down their door to drop him off, but I wasn't. I was so sad. I teared up walking back to my car and that is so not like me.

These days at home are so fleeting. I want to hold on to them.

WEB_IMG_5788

And while every mom deserves a few alone hours a week to run errands or get some work done or take a nap, it's still hard to say goodbye.

I put him to bed tonight and though he usually just asks for more pats, tonight he wanted to rock.

It's been ages since we sat down to rock in his left-over from the nursery days glider, but we snuggled in and rocked. And then he said hold my hand mama.

And my mama heart cried.

WEB_IMG_5791

Remember when he was so little and I spent hours nursing him in that chair, singing about nap time.

Remember when he decided he didn't want to sit in my lap, but right next to me while we read books.

WEB_IMG_5787

Remember when we'd just moved him to his big boy bed and he couldn't even climb up to tuck himself in without a boost from me.

He is so much fun and such a joy. I just want remember it all, take it all in, enjoy it and be there.

Fourth of July Printables

The 4th of July is on a Wednesday this year which totally throws off our regular celebration of summer holidays. We usually spend a long weekend at the lake with my family, swimming and grilling and playing.

But this year I think we're going to have a little party at my sister's house. Or maybe our house. We haven't quite settled it yet.

But either way, I know we'll have these cute little flags somewhere.

And I want to share them with you!

Click below to download:

I hope these brighten your Independence Day celebration!

And don't forget to follow me on Facebook so you'll always know when I have fun new printables to share with you!

Banana Apple Muffins

I keep buying bananas and the people in my house keep not eating them.

I'll admit I'm not a fan of bananas on their own. The mushyness just gets to me. But Andrew used to love bananas and now he doesn't want them.

And Caroline's not really a fan. So I'd been tossing bananas and decided that was silly...

Let's make muffins!

I've been making these since I served them at Andrew's 2nd birthday party. They're a hit!

You will need:

All this stuff plus applesauce.

And a cute assistant:

{Adapted from www.welicious.com}

Ingredients:

1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup Old Fashioned Oats
2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp Salt
2 Tsp Cinnamon
2 Tbsp Vegetable or Canola Oil
1/2 Cup Applesauce
1/2 Cup Honey
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Milk
2 Bananas, mashed
1 Medium Apple, peeled and grated

Combine all the dry ingredients in a big mixing bowl.

Smash your bananas and grate your apples, then add them to a separate bowl with the honey, applesauce, oil, egg and milk. Mix well.

Slowly add the four to the banana mixture.

Stir it all together, but not too much because it'll make 'em chewy. And no one likes chewy muffins!

Fill your muffin cups.

If you use wrappers you shouldn't eat the muffins while they're still warm out of the oven because lots of the muffin will stick to the wrapper. Or so I've heard.

*Ahem*

Bake at 350 for 20 - 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Our favorite way to clean out the banana stash. And everyone loves 'em!

So, do the people in your house actually eat all the bananas?

Sunday, Fun Day

Oh y'all, we've had the most fun weekend.

I had all this stuff I wanted to share with you, but now it's after 10pm on Sunday and I just didn't get it all together in time.

I was too busy hanging out with these amazing people.

We had a Father's Day full of water play, grilling, baby walking and napping. It was so fun. Brian had to study for a few hours, but he was able to spend a big chunk of the day at home with us.

It was perfect.

So later this week I'm going to have these adorable 4th of July printables ready for you.

I also wanted to tell you about how I went to my first blogging event last Thursday for Dallas Moms Blog. It was great to meet the blog contributors and catch up with other local bloggers I'd met a few weeks ago, Cynthia at Oh So Pinteresting and Rach at Life Ever Since.

And I have this yummy recipe for banana apple muffins to share.

But tonight, I'm heading to bed. I'll be back later this week with details. And those 4th of July flags - they're so cute!

I hope your weekend was spent with those you love. :)

Wild Week in iPhone Photos

This week was somethin'...

Brian was out of town and Andrew has been testing me like crazy. We're both pretty happy that he'll be back in Mother's Day out two mornings next week.

I like the structure and routine, and I think it's good for someone else to be in charge of telling him what to do every once in a while. :)

So today we escaped to Target because it's the thing to do, and we were out of paper towels.

Everything was so colorful and pretty and I grabbed my phone and snapped away. I got a few funny looks: I was wearing the baby in the Ergo, Andrew was in the front of the cart, and I was shopping of course. While taking pictures of fruit.

Hahaha! The hot dog. Andrew wanted to keep it in sight at all times.

The next time you're at Target you should have a look around. There's lots of fun stuff to photograph!

Also this week....

He was in that costume every single day. I had to beg him to take it off when we left the house because it's too puffy to wear in his car seat. Also, it's summer.

Miss Caroline started taking steps! Those thighs crack me up.

Flowers and wine - two of my favorites.

Doesn't everyone go camping in the living room? And wear awesome Jessica Simpson shades?

I love the light in these. My sweet babies....I love them to the moon and back, even when they make me want to pull my hair out. :)

Happy, happy weekend! Brian's home, and and I'm very thankful!

Water Hose Play

We can cross play in the water hose off our summer bucket list.

I asked Andrew if he wanted to run out and play in the water for a bit. It was after 7PM so I knew the mosquitoes would be bad. I said, "hurry - we'll have to play before the bugs find us!"

He didn't even stop to put his swim suit on.

I love these photos so much. He's so smiley and happy and silly.

We have so much fun together, him and me. He makes me want to be more playful, less anxious about the dirty floors or the baby's missed nap.

He's taught me so much about who I am.

And who I want to be when I grow up. :)
