Just Ramblings

  • It has turned in to my March Madness instead of Brian's. My bracket has earned 104 points! Woo Hoo! I correctly picked all FOUR teams in the Final Four. I couldn't believe it! I'm leading Brian's work bracket and our family bracket. I would like to point out that Brian is doing very well, too. He has 101 points and is in the top five in the work bracket and is second in our family bracket so he is still having a good year even though I'm beating him!! :)

  • The rain FINALLY came yesterday! It had been cloudy and muggy here for the last week with the exception of Saturday, (which was weird since the weather guys said it was going to thunderstorm all day Saturday!) and I was so tired of that weather. I just wanted it to rain and move on. Well, yesterday was the day.

  • It's funny having a dog when it's raining. Fenway doesn't like to go out in the rain, but when you gotta go, you gotta go. He finally gave up and ran out to stand in the rain to potty. He kept shaking his head to get the rain out of his face. And then of course, we had a wet dog who wanted to come back inside! I tried wiping off his little feet but that didn't work very well because he just kept trying to eat the towel. I gave up and we had a wet dog run around our house last night. Brian thinks this having a dog thing has really mellowed me out and I might have to agree! At least he's a small dog and doesn't make much of a mess!

  • I said I was going to post new pictures, but we went off and left our camera in Rockwall on Saturday. It was hiding under a pile of catalogs and we missed picking it up. I could ask Mom to download some of the pictures and email them to me, but I don't think that would work very well. So I should get it back on Saturday. I have lots of new pictures of Fenway, and they will go up on the blog - I promise!

  • American Idol is on tonight. Please, oh please make Hula Boy, Sanjaya, go home this week! Yes, he's fun to laugh at, but I'm afraid Brian won't watch with me anymore if he's still around much longer.

  • I'm going to bed early tonight, I'm going to bed early tonight, I'm going to bed early tonight.....anyone know how to make your body function correctly on five hours of sleep??

Brian's March Madness

So Brian sent out the funniest email for our family March Madness bracket update. An excerpt:

“What’s the score, what’s the score…?”

I’ll tell you in a minute but first I have to hand out some awards. I know what you’re saying, “…But Brian, the competition is not even over yet.” You're right, it’s not over yet (for some of us), but here are the first awards of our little Tourney of Champions.

The first award is the “What is a Computer?” Award…also known as the “Stuck in the Seventies” Award. This one goes to Lisa who faxed her bracket to Kelsey. Lisa, there was this guy named Bill Gates… Winners of this award are known to kill many trees. Kels, Thanks for entering it in Excel for me!

The second award is the “I know what Excel is but what’s a formula?” Award…also known as the “I like to make things difficult” Award. This one goes to Captain Morgan who thought that it would be easier to type in all the teams in the spreadsheet instead of using the handy dandy dropdown boxes. The idea behind the dropdown boxes is to make filling out the bracket easier for you, and to calculate the points by using formulas! I’ll send instructions next time.

Matt and Kelsey share the “Video Professor” Award. Matt and Kelsey obviously ordered the Video Professor’s CD’s from the infomercial and have mastered Excel and Email! Winners of this award are known to cohabitate and have internet access.

The next award is the “I am working in the Dark Ages” Award, also known as the “SBC Sucks!” Award. This goes to my beautiful wife Meagan, who had to fill out her bracket by hand and delegate the “computer business” to her loving hubby. Meagan, I’ll print out a copy of the score for you and stick it in your lunch pale.

The last award goes to yours truly. That’s right, me! I am the proud winner of the “I think I’m a Comedian” Award. Winners of this award are known to have won other awards such as the “Tax procrastinator” Award and the “Nocturnal” Award.

Don't I just have the funniest husband? And because I'm sure you're all wondering what the score is after two rounds, here is Brian again:

Tied for 1st with 48 points each, Meagan and Brian (What fix?)
Tied for 2nd with 46 points each, The Captain, The Kelsenator, and Chewy
In 3rd with 39 points is Lovely Lisa.
Dead last with zero points is Fenway who ate his Bracket.

Poor Fenway....he'll just eat anything!

Brian, thanks for all your work to score our brackets. You're an awesome Bracketmaster!! Go Aggies - here's hoping for a great Sweet Sixteen round this weekend!

I'm back!

It was a long ten days at work with NO INTERNET! Can you imagine trying to do business without emails? Without the ability to Google a new customer? Or to do such basic things as fill out your March Madness bracket??? That was my life from March 6 to March 16. Ten whole days!! Damn AT&T DSL - if you are considering switching your Internet to "The New AT&T" I highly recommend that you do not, unless you enjoy having your service cancelled without notice. I'm writing a complaint letter and hope to get at least a few months of free service, but it's still not worth it.

Moving on....I was able to fill out that bracket at home, and I correctly picked 10 of the Sweet 16. I think it's the worst I've done in 4 years of brackets. Who would have thought there would be no major upsets? So now I'm just cheering for A&M - go Aggies! I watched hours and hours of basketball this weekend. We went to the Celtics v. Mavs game on Friday night, I watched at least seven hours of the NCAA tourney on Saturday and Sunday and watched the Mavs beat Detroit on Sunday afternoon. It was so fun! We had planned on running in the Dash Down Greenville run for St. Patty's Day on Saturday, but poor Brian had food poising and wasn't running anywhere but to the bathroom. So Saturday was kind of a bust, but it was nice to just relax and watch ALL that basketball!

An update on our pup: Fenway is now 12 weeks old. He has fully learned to bark and thinks it's his job to remind us, by using that skill, that he's still in the kitchen if we are not right there with him. I'm hoping he'll soon realize that even if we're in the den watching TV we'll be right back. We haven't gone to Siberia without him! Maybe he just does it because he loves us so much, but it's getting kind of old. But he's just so cute and adorable it's very hard to stay annoyed with him for very long. I keep saying I'm going to get some pictures and I will. That's on my to-do list this week.

It's warm outside - when are we going to go sailing???

It's almost Spring!

Spring comes pretty early here in Dallas. The first of March comes around and we're ready for sunshine and 70's! It makes me really, really grateful I don't live in Chicago or some really cold place in the North East. I love winter, but I'm happy with just two months of it.

So...to get us started for the warmer weather we planted pansies this weekend! I have no idea if this was the right time to plant pansies or not, but I think they should stick around until it starts to get hot - maybe through May? I think the last time I planted flowers was when I was in High School so I was a little rusty, but Brian was a great help and our yard looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Brian put down all new mulch, too, which made a huge difference. Thanks for all your hard work this weekend!
Fenway loved the sunny weather, too. We've learned that we have to get him lots of exercise to keep him from being really unhappy when we put him in his crate. I've been walking him a few days a week and Brian's very good about running around the backyard with him. Dogs grow so fast so it's great fun to watch his progress. He's learned to bark, which will probably be a real pain, but for now it's kind of endearing. We're such adoring parents! :)
Our friends Angela and Alan came over to sit by the fire with us Saturday night after the (awesome!!) Mavs game. Fenway stayed outside and sat in our laps the whole time. And thankfully he didn't try to jump in the fireplace!
It was a fun weekend and we got a lot done - my favorite kind! So now we're just going to enjoy the pretty 70 degree weather we're supposed to have all week. And not think about what it's like in July and August! :)

Now that I have a reader or two....'till next time. Feel free to post a comment!
