8 Months!

Guess who's excited to be eight months old?

IMG_3053
Andrew turned eight months old yesterday. Brian took the day off of work so we had a fun family day.

Andrew is, of course, super busy these days.

He's cruising around furniture and walls and dogs - he's not picky about what he hangs on to. He just looks for something sturdy to help get him from one point to another.

He eats a lot! I've been making my own baby food for the last month or so and he seems to really like the fresh food better. He eats lots of peas, carrots, squash, apples, mangos, sweet potatoes, avocados, bananas and cantaloupe. We're trying pasta and peas for dinner tonight. We'll see what he thinks of that!

He's still pretty serious sometimes, mostly when he's just waking up or checking out someone he's never met before. But he's really a happy, cheerful babay. Smiling and clapping for us.

We're so crazy about this adorable baby!

Eagle Eye

We've had some beautiful weather around here. Finally, after the rainiest October ever, it's nice to get outside and enjoy the sun.

We met some friends at the Arboretum last week. It was still a little soggy from all the rain, but Andrew was able to crawl around quite a bit.

I'm going to have a hard time with this crawling thing. I really wanted to stop him from getting into the dirt and putting grass in his mouth, but I think I'll just have to get used to it. He's a boy. :)

And he's a busy boy.

Tuesday morning I was straightening up the kitchen, and I'd put Andrew down on the floor in the den with his basket of toys. He promptly crawled out of the room toward the stairs, but I figured he was just playing on the first step like he'd been doing for days.

He got quiet so I popped around the corner to see what he was up to, and I couldn't find him. I looked in the study and the guestroom, even the bathroom, before I spotted him.

He was all the way up the stairs on the ninth step, sitting on his knees and holding on to the railing, smiling at me like he'd just done the greatest thing ever.

I was scared to death! He'd only been out of my view for a few minutes. I couldn't believe he could get that far up the stairs; he'd never even crawled up one step. I felt terrible, but he was just fine.

Needless to say, I've kept an eagle eye on him these last few days, and we're having gates installed tomorrow. We're not taking any more chances with our busy guy!

Stair Climber

It's way past time to do some baby proofing around here. We started out with the outlet covers because they're super easy. I try to keep a pretty close eye on him while he's wondering all over the house so I figure he's fairly safe.

But I think gates for the stairs are next on our to-do list.

What's really awful is that he cried and cried when I pulled him off the steps all eight times today.

What kind of mother won't let her seven month old son play on the stairs??

So I brought him back into the den and let him play on the hearth. That seems much safer.

Our Giraffe

Andrew was a giraffe for Halloween. He was such a cutie, but he had a really hard time keeping the headpiece on. I guess it's not much fun to have a big giraffe nose in your face.
Halloween_ASitting

We went to the neighborhood Halloween Festival to celebrate. We decided not to take Andrew trick-or-treating so we needed a reason to get him dressed up in his costume.

Brian's mom, GJ, came in to town Saturday afternoon. It was great to have her here. She loved loved loved getting to hang out with our little guy. I think she was glad to see Brian and me, too. (Maybe. :))
Halloween_J&A

We had the most wonderful, gorgeous weather this weekend. Weeks like this make up for the Dallas summers. We tried to spend as much time outside as possible.

(I'm leaning towards liking the dark hair. Thanks for the encouragement!).

It's hard to keep a giraffe down on the ground. Especially when you won't let him eat the grass.
