What I did on my Summer Vacation

It seems that when things start to get a little crazy or stressful around here I end up not blogging about it. Which seems silly, because what's a blog for if you can't tell friends and strangers about the busy happenings in your life, right?

My longtime friend Emily left me a comment last week encouraging me to get back to blogging so I'm just going to jump right back in to it. Thanks for the push Em!

So what kept me so busy that I didn't have time to blog? I decided over Memorial Day weekend to leave my job of six years to work for my family's business. Talk about a change! I really loved my old job most days. It was a small business that I'd seen through many ups and downs. I had tons of responsibility and shared a mutual respect with my co-workers.

But it was time to move on. I'm excited about my new job. I now have lots of flexibility, and I get to use my finance degree in ways I most likely would have never been able to at at my old place. And I get to work with my sister! That part is super fun.

I'm currently working from home, but we're hoping to get office space in the next month or two. Kelsey's been working out of her home for years and has way more paper than her bedroom can hold so the sooner the better. I am enjoying being home for now though.

I thought Fenway would appreciate having me at home during the day, but he often looks at me like I'm really just getting in the way. He'll spend about an hour in the study with me in the morning, but then he heads back to his kennel to get some real sleep. All my closing drawers and shuffling papers is obviously very disturbing to his daytime sleeping habits.

We also made a trip to Napa CA, last month. We had friends getting married in Berkeley, outside of San Francisco, so we decided to head up a few days early and spend some time in wine country since neither of us had been before. We learned all kinds of stuff about wine and drank a bit of it, too.

Here we are in front of the casks at the Robert Mondavi winery.

These are just a few of the casks at Sterling Vineyards.

And here's Brian looking happy after dinner in Sonoma.

We've been able to spend some time out at the lake, too. Mom and Dad's new house is thisclose to being finished. They're not moved in yet, but we've been hanging out in the new pool anyway. It has this awesome swim ledge that lets you sit in about 4 inches of water. It's really great for dogs, too. Fenway has finally decided he likes water.

Isn't he just too cute?

I think that's enough catching up for now. I'll be back sooner rather than later this time!
